Schedule an RPC!
Can't remember how to schedule an RPC? Here's how...
Talk to the student about their research problem. If the problem is too difficult to resolve at the desk and the student has done preliminary research, encourage the student to sign up for an RPC. Please let them know that we require that students sign up at least 48 hours in advance (not including weekends.) We won’t be able to meet with them immediately in most cases!
Have the student fill out and submit the RPC form on the website. Click on the orange “Ask a Librarian” button or on “Research Help” to access the form. The request will be send directly to all librarians who deliver RPCs and we will take care of the scheduling. Katherine will keep track of how many RPCs each librarian has delivered.
EXCEPTION: If everyone in the Reference & Instruction Department is away (at a conference or Friday meeting for example), please go ahead and schedule an appointment. Otherwise, the student may be waiting days before hearing back from us!
All librarians who deliver RPCs should print out a copy of the form submitted by the student and attach any relevant notes. For now, leave them in the RPC box on the bookshelf in the Reference office (same as before.) If you deliver an informal RPC, please fill out one of the old print forms, or submit the form yourself after the RPC, including a note that the RPC is completed.
Let me know if you have questions!
