Printing from laptops

Update from IT 8/31/10:

Students may send print jobs to network printers from their laptops either by:
  1. gbcwifi wireless connection (note: students no long have access to the Siouxland wireless network)
  2. wired connection (connect laptop to port with Ethernet cable - cables can be checked out at our circulation desk)
Students may send jobs to lab printers in the library (two on ground floor, one on main floor), McCreary 204, and Glatfelter 201-203-204. However, some fancy configuration is needed. Mapping the drivers doesn't work in the same (relatively straightforward) way that we map them on our staff machines.

Instructions for this configuration will be released by IT by end of day tomorrow (9/1), if all goes well.

I'm still unclear about how students access their H: drives from laptops now that Siouxland isn't an option for them - IT will get back to me about this. The helpdesk thinks that H: drives are still accessible from laptops but isn't sure about the details.

That's what we know for today. More tomorrow, hopefully. Janelle
